Hilton Head Island

View Details

While it may only measure 12 miles by 7 miles, Hilton Head Island is the gem in the crown of the ‘Low Country’, and offers extensive options for visitors to the South Carolina coast. In addition to the world renowned golf courses – Hilton Head is best known for the iconic Harbour Town Links and the three layouts at Palmetto Dunes – the unique barrier island is home to a rich array of wildlife, particularly in the marshland.

Art galleries, theatres and water parks add to the attraction of Hilton Head Island, but the true joy of a visit to this South Carolina hot spot is the chance to play some of the area’s world class golf courses.

Golf Courses

Harbour Town Golf Links

Harbour Town Golf Links is one of the most established tournament venues on the PGA Tour, and among the finest courses in the world. Since 1969, Harbour Town has played host to the heritage event, and has garnered accolades including being named the best course in South Carolina by Golf Magazine.

The revered Pete Dye worked in close consultation with Jack Nicklaus, and the result is a championship layout to test the creativity and imagination of the finest golfers; Hilton Head is among the shorter courses to regularly stage PGA Tour events, but the fantastic variety of Pete Dye’s design ensures sufficient difficulty.

Bordering the beautiful Calibogue Sound – often buffeted by brisk coastal breezes – Harbour Town is best known for its closing hole; guarded over by the iconic lighthouse, the 18th is one of the world’s most celebrated holes, and is worth the trip to Hilton Head alone.

Its ‘do or die’ at Harbour Town’s finishing hole – step up to the plate and take on the water that guards short and left.

Atlantic Dunes

Atlantic Dunes by Davis Love III is a complete reconstruction of The Sea Pines Resort’s historic Ocean Course, the first course built on Hilton Head. Featuring a pronounced seaside ambiance and Lowcountry feel accented by coquina shells and seaside grass, it incorporates elements of the surrounding beachfront along with the area’s bounty of native pines and oaks lining the fairways.

Atlantic Dunes benefits both visually and strategically from the restoration of natural sand dunes, as well as the creation of new dunes that blend seamlessly into the design. Tens of thousands of indigenous plants have been installed in these areas to complete the seaside feel, while the playing surface is a blend of cutting-edge grasses matching the superior strains of The Sea Pines Resort’s two other acclaimed courses.
